My 1948 Panhead
Sumo asked me to post a picture of my bike. Well this is it ! Its currently in bits being fixed and put back together. I think its pretty much stock with the only glaring problem being the 55 solo seat which has always grated me. Ive asked Xian in NY to make me a custom seat, which he is hopefully gonna start work on soon

i do like that and with a seat from xian it will rule - his leather work is just too clean

when you have negligible mechanical skills like me, you tend to spend a lot of time looking at accessories and things you can understand. I've looked a lot of craftsmens works and there is some very special stuff out there. For me the seat that Xian did for biltwell just blew my mind. The real icing on the cake though is Xians enthusiasm which is off the hook, and what a nice guy

not met him yet but he is doing the run in august i am going over for - camping with that crew - he has done some icredible stuff for trent too

Hi,
NICE bike Pete.

Thanks J
I think I managed to take a particularly good photo of it. Its not running at the moment, but im hoping it wont take too much. The bloke fixing it up just checked the electrics and they seem to be 90% working. Not much glow on a six volt headlamp though ! yikes

Pete, that thing is just soooo pretty!. Personally I'd leave it just as is, but it's not mine (boo hoo). Actually I' probbly end up doing a light bob job on it. Loose the front fender and the rear end of the rear fender. Sparto tail light and loose the conchos off the seat. Or fit a slimmer 45 or Knuckle seat with a longer T bar. That drops the seat some and get's rid of that CHiPs riding position but still gives you the relative comfort of a pogo seat. Never been a fan of tooled leather. A bit too 'Live to Ride' for me. But hey, it's your ride.
Lovely.

Ha I agree some of the tooled leather stuff can be shocking, but Xians stuff is a world apart from that. There will most definitely be no 'live to ride' on my bike, I promise.
A light bob job would be my preference on something not original or first year, but as its survived nearly sixty years with its metalwork, cutting it now would be sacrilege !

johnny - dont know of you have seen xians stuff - i love it
i just wish i could afford it thats all....

Yeah I've seen it. Superb quality work just my opinion. Don't like tooled leather. (Some people are really crazy and don't like white seats  )

hehe - didnt know youd seen his stuff
but white seats are still somewhat on the effeminate side
Pete Staunch- 06-07-2007

just ordered internal handlebar controls, I had all but lost the advance and retard shuttle and bits.
front end is looking ok, stripped, greased and re-assembled. Back end tonight I think and hopefully one electrical glitch overcome.

Pete , seen you mention your Pan on the JJ , Ithought it was just boxes of bits! That thing is great , you`d have to try REALLY hard to make that ugly . My unsolicited opinion.....`tooled ` leather can be a little dodgy , never really understood it myself........white naughahyde, Bates without the pricetag , oh yeah! you can`t go wrong with black though
