Wheel rim question Anyone on here know a lot about wheel rims?Thinking about doing a deal with a JJer in the States for my 16" Borrani , but I don`t know what it`s worth. I know the company went bust in the 70s and I`ve never seen another 16" one , were they OE on anything (Guzzi?) or just for custom applications . ?

As far as my knowledge goes, Akronts are the really sought after flanged rims. The Brit cafe racer crowd will pay big money for good condition originals. Borranis were standard fitment on a lot of high end 70s Italian sportsbikes like the Laverda SFC and early Duke 750s and 900s. I can't think what a 16" would be fitted to back then cos most wheels were 18 or 19". Even the early Guzzi T3 Californias. That makes me think yours is an aftermarket custom one - I'm pretty sure they sold them in most sizes. I believe the manufacturing rights were bought by Radaelli who still make them under their name but most of the alloy rims you see nowadays are German made by Morad, Bauer etc. As for value, pretty hard to say. I don't think they have much rarity value. Check out the prices of new ones from Central Wheel Components and price accordingly. I suppose it all boils down to what you want for it and what he's prepared to pay.

Thanks Johnny , I think you`re right , it must be aftermarket , by the time factory customs came along they usually had mags as far as I can remember . When he contacted me I hoped he had some cool bits I could use on the Trump , but I think it`s gonna have to be cash or nothing . How many spokes do iti hubs use , are the rims interchangable between iti and britbikes?

It boils down to the individual bike I think. Most were 40 but some were 36 (usually lightweights) and some 42.

An answer here (kind of)http://www.jockeyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23688&page=5 .The link doesn`t seem to work , it`s in the thread `SHOW YOUR RARE STUFF` , I guess rare doesn`t always mean valuable , that`s got to be good , right?
